SG's Note

Secretary General

Zaid Arafah

To all participants of AMMUN XXIV,

It is with the greatest pleasure that I, on behalf of the Amman Baccalaureate School (ABS) and the AMMUN XXIV Leadership Team, welcome you to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Steeped in history and culture, Jordan stands as a land of remarkable beauty and resilience — home to Petra, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, and the Dead Sea, the lowest point on Earth.

Founded in 1982, the Amman Baccalaureate School is proud to be the first institution in Jordan to offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) program. Over four decades, ABS has become a pioneering educational institution in the region — one that balances academic excellence with principled character development. The school remains deeply committed to fostering international mindedness while ensuring its students remain firmly rooted in their Arab heritage and values.

Hosted by ABS, the Amman Model United Nations (AMMUN) is Jordan’s only THIMUN-affiliated conference, and the first in the country to unite both local and international students in an inclusive, globally engaged environment. Now in its 24th year, AMMUN continues to serve as a platform for youth diplomacy, cultural exchange, and international collaboration.

This year’s five-day conference will feature an exciting program — including an opening dinner and party, a visit to Petra, lobbying and merging sessions on the ABS campus, and two debate days at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, Amman.

Over the years, AMMUN has grown into Jordan’s largest and most prestigious MUN conference, recognized across the Middle East for its professionalism, inclusivity, and impact. The AMMUN XXIV Leadership Team proudly presents this year’s theme:

“Deliberate to Liberate.”

This theme reminds us that communication is the cornerstone of liberation — that when dialogue falters, division and destruction follow. Around the world today, we witness humanitarian crises and rising tensions that underscore this truth: the conflicts in Africa and Ukraine, the ongoing genocide in Gaza, strained relations among global powers such as the U.S., China, Mexico, and Canada, and the escalating consequences of climate change. These challenges reflect a world on the brink of transformation — one in which the future will be shaped by our capacity to deliberate, to listen, and to engage with empathy and reason.

At the heart of AMMUN XXIV, we hope delegates will embrace this mission: to foster constructive, solution-driven dialogue on global issues, and to become part of a movement that empowers young people to lead with understanding, conviction, and compassion.

This year, we are proud to offer eleven distinct committees, detailed under the “Forums” section of our website. Moreover, AMMUN XXIV is accepting student officer applications from both local and international participants. Applications are due by August 20th, and can be found under “Registration” → “Student Officer Application.”

From November 12th to 16th, 2025, delegates will experience not only the intellectual rigor of debate but also the warmth of Jordanian hospitality — its cuisine, culture, and camaraderie. AMMUN promises a unique experience that blends academic challenge with cultural immersion and unforgettable memories.

We eagerly look forward to welcoming you this November. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me at [email protected], or contact the AMMUN team at [email protected].

We cannot wait to meet you all in Amman and embark together on this extraordinary journey of diplomacy, discovery, and dialogue.

With warm regards,
